Smart‑IJs – Graduation Project
For my final school project, we were tasked with redesigning and developing a full website for a company. The process began with pitching ideas in duos to two potential clients; based on the results, project groups of four were formed. I was placed in a new team assigned to Smart‑IJs, a fictitious ice cream company.
From the start, we worked in weekly client meetings (simulated), beginning with research, requirements gathering, and design. Two of us focused mainly on design while the other two concentrated on development, though these responsibilities overlapped throughout the project. After feedback and revisions, the client approved our design, and we began development.
The site was built with Craft CMS, a requirement for the project, and included a webshop with a fully functioning checkout. I set up the development environment and contributed significantly on both the front‑end and back‑end:
• Built the header and a content block on the homepage.
• Developed the shopping cart and the entire checkout flow, integrated with Mollie for payments.
• Implemented a gift card system.
• Optimized the shopping cart to update dynamically without page reloads.
Our team applied the Scrum methodology throughout the project, with each member taking on an additional role. I acted as Scrum Master, organizing stand‑ups, retrospectives, and keeping the workflow smooth. The other roles included Git Master, UX/UI expert, and Craft CMS master.
After many iterations and client meetings, we delivered a responsive, modern webshop that fully met the requirements. The project challenged us to learn new tools like Craft Commerce from scratch, and it resulted in a product we were all proud of.
